The 1988 Cape Dory 36 Flybridge Sedan Fast Trawler is a vessel that combines classic design with reliable performance, making it a standout choice for those who appreciate traditional aesthetics and solid construction. Cape Dory has long been celebrated for its craftsmanship, and this model is no exception, featuring a durable solid fiberglass hull and a spacious flybridge that offers excellent visibility and comfort. With a length overall of 36 feet and a beam of 13 feet, this trawler is designed for efficient cruising, boasting a 250-gallon fuel tank that ensures extended voyages with good fuel economy. Inside, the layout is practical, though it may feel limited compared to more modern designs, accommodating a single head and offering ample storage for long-term cruising. This vessel is ideal for experienced boaters who value long-term reliability and efficiency over speed and modern styling, making it perfect for extended cruising, liveaboard lifestyles, and coastal or inland waterway exploration. While the Cape Dory 36 may show signs of age, such as potential corrosion on deck hardware and outdated electrical systems, its robust construction and timeless appeal continue to attract a niche group of enthusiasts. Priced at $79,900 and located in Jersey City, New Jersey, this trawler presents a compelling opportunity for those seeking a well-built and efficient vessel.
"Vintage" is a nicely maintained sedan cruiser with a crisp, handsome downeast look. This well-designed Cape Dory 36 offers rugged seagoing performance, excellent accommodation, a spacious layout, and just the right amount of luxury to keep you and your guests happy on the water. This boat is an excellent Great Loop boat with her diesel twin screws, secure side decks, and excellent sight lines. Her knowledgeable owner had a most fitting description: “Vintage has been the stable long range cruising platform that I wanted when I bought it 10 years ago. My daughter and I have cruised the Northeast every year with extended stays at Block Island on the hook. The accommodations, generator, AC, and large galley make it the perfect platform for comfortable cruising at reasonable speed and efficiency. The systems receive regular maintenance and have performed well.” Power Boat Guide Description “Economical to operate and easy on the eye, the Cape Dory 36 Flybridge is a Down East-style convertible whose blend of classic lines and spirited, planning-speed performance still hits the sweet spot with boating traditionalists. She rides on a modified-V hull with a solid fiberglass bottom, and a long, prop-protecting keel. The interior of the Cape Dory 36 is dominated by the handcrafted teak cabinets and trim long identified with this builder. A two-stateroom layout with midlevel galley was standard. Featuring large salon cabin windows make the interior seem bigger than it is. The cockpit is big enough for several anglers and their gear offering a transom door and teak covering boards. Additional features include a teak bow pulpit, teak swim platform, wide side decks, and a compact flybridge with the helm forward. Optional 250hp GM 8.2 diesels cruise at 19–20 knots (about 22 knots top).” Accommodations This 1988 Cape Dory Flybridge offers classic styling and design for comfortable and efficient cruising or fishing, or both, with reverse cycle heat / AC and generator, with that super cockpit aft.
