POWERBOAT GUIDE DESCRIPTION: Viking’s largest yacht when she was introduced in 1981, the 46 Convertible was a good-selling boat for Viking thanks to her luxurious accommodations and enviable open-water performance. Built on a modified-V hull with cored hull sides and a shallow keel, the Viking 46 has a reputation for being an agile sea boat although the ride can be harsh when the seas pick up. The posh interior of the 46, with its teak joinery, standard washer/dryer and built-in entertainment center, was considered very sophisticated in her day. A two-stateroom layout with a huge amidships master stateroom was standard and a triple-stateroom layout (unusual in an under-50-foot convertible) became available in 1982. Like all Viking fishing boats, the cockpit is set up for serious anglers with an array of top-quality fishing features. Topside, the flybridge is big for a 46-footer with a well-arranged helm console and seating for six. On the downside, the engine room is a tight fit (note that the air intakes are located under the gunnels). Originally offered with 500hp 6V92s (24 knots cruise/28 top), 675hp 8V92s became available in 1983 raising the cruising speed to a fast 27–28 knots and the top speed to 31 knots.

«Yacht Access found my first Hatteras for me over twenty-five years ago; since then they have helped me buy and sell four more boats – and become great friends. Their service during the sale is great, but their service after the sale they is exceptional – without the knowledge and guidance provided by Yacht Access I would never have had such a pleasurable ownership experience. The staff at DDYS knows everyone in the boat business and helped me find the best service and supply vendors to take care of my boats – I could not have owned five boats without them!»
