The 2005 Legacy 42 Sedan is a quintessential Downeast cruiser that embodies the perfect blend of classic styling and modern performance. Known for its quality craftsmanship and elegant design, Legacy Yachts has crafted a vessel that appeals to those who appreciate timeless aesthetics and reliable cruising capabilities. The Legacy 42 Sedan is celebrated for its efficient hull design, offering an impressive cruise speed of 18 knots and a top speed of 24 knots, powered by diesel engines. With a fuel capacity of 450 gallons, this vessel is designed for extended coastal cruising. The interior is a testament to high-quality finishes and attention to detail, providing a warm and inviting atmosphere for up to four guests. This boat is ideal for coastal cruising, weekend getaways, and entertaining guests, thanks to its spacious salon and cockpit. While the Legacy 42 Sedan is a remarkable vessel, potential buyers should be aware of some common issues such as outdated electronics and occasional leaks around windows and hatches. Engine room access can be tight, which may pose challenges during maintenance. Despite these considerations, the Legacy 42 Sedan remains a strong contender in its class, maintaining its value well due to its classic appeal and solid build quality. Located in Hampton, Virginia, this vessel is ready for its next adventure.
Legacy Yachts was established in 1995 and can trace their origins to the well respected Freedom Yacht Company. Built in Rhode Island, the Legacy 42 Sedan is highly regarded for her quality of construction and classic Downeast design. Downeast style cruisers, such as the Legacy 42, have become extremely popular due to their classic styling, performance and fuel efficiency. "Tilly Too" is in excellent condition with many recent upgrades (including recently added GARMIN electronics package) , and she will not disappoint. Powered by a single Cummins QSM11 660 HP diesel (@1735 lifetime hours), the "Tilly Too" is extremely fuel efficient and also has the ability to cruise at 18 knots with a top-end of 24 knots. With her bow and stern thrusters and side door at the helm, "Tilly Too" is quite easy for a couple to handle at the dock. Her propeller is skeg-protected, and she is equipped with a very nice electronics package. This boat is a real head-turner at every yacht club that she visits! Some of her notable upgrades and features include: Awlgripped flag-blue hullsides 2017 Dingy with transom-mounted davit system Stern thruster installed with separate battery bank and charger Isotherm drawer fridge installed beneath helm seat 5-bladed nibral prop 4-bladed spare prop included (not currently on vessel) Dual racors 2 Stidd helm seats Batteries and battery charger: Four 4-D AGMs in parallel providing 792 amp hours for house bank, One 8-D AGM starting battery. Upgraded Alternator on Cummins: charges starting battery, then switches to house bank once charged. Victron 80 amp 2000 watt Charger/Inverter tied to house bank. Dripless shaft seal Engine room access via salon Updated steering ram installed. LOAD FACTOR: For those who understand the expected longevity of an engine and how it relates to total liftime fuel burned, "Tilly Too" has a "Load Factor" of 24%. She has a lifetime burn rate of only 9.3 gph, and burns 37.7 at WOT. Good numbers!
The Legacy 42 Sedan is a standout in the Downeast cruiser category, offering a blend of classic aesthetics and modern performance. Built with quality materials and craftsmanship, this vessel features a hand-laid fiberglass hull and high-end interior finishes. The efficient hull design ensures a smooth ride and good fuel economy, making it ideal for coastal cruising. However, the narrow beam may lead to more roll at rest compared to wider-beamed competitors. A marine surveyor would focus on checking for leaks around windows and hatches, as well as assessing the condition of the electronics package. This vessel is perfect for experienced boaters who value timeless design and quality craftsmanship. While it may not offer the most storage space, its overall build quality and performance make it a compelling choice for those seeking a reliable and stylish cruiser.
Owners appreciate the Legacy 42 Sedan for its classic styling and reliable performance. Some concerns exist regarding storage space and electronics.
