The Ted Hood designed Bristol 38.8, built in Rhode Island, is a classic design with a build quality that is not found in modern production yachts.
Manitou’s owners have lavished care and upgrades on her for the past twelve years of ownership. The boat has been actively used on the US east coast from her home base in the Chesapeake to New England in the summers and as far as the Bahamas in winter. The Bristol 38.8 is a sailor’s boat with a well- balanced helm that points at better than 30 degrees with the centerboard down. The design is perfect for coastal and Bahamas gunkholing with a shallow draft of 4’6” with the board up and 10'6" with the board down, allowing great windward performance . Manitou has been upgraded with all new chainplates, mast, boom, standing and running rigging and new sails. The owner has also upgraded many items on the boat making her even more suited to the cruising lifestyle.
HIGHLIGHTS
ACCOMMODATION:
As you come down the companionway you are struck by the by quality and quantity of teak cabinetry. The varnished teak & holly sole and varnished cabinets are highlighted by the natural light from the many ports and hatches and give a feeling of being in a traditional solidly built boat.
To starboard is a long quarter berth that stretches under the cockpit. The berth also doubles as a seat for the fixed nav-desk facing forward. The nav desk opens for storage and there is also a set of four drawers.
The U-shaped galley is immediately to port is equipped with a three-burner propane stove located centrally and a double deep stainless sink facing forward. A top loading fridge/freezer faces aft. There is plenty of storage with louvered door cabinets and custom teak holders for cups and glasses and knives.
The main salon is amidships and features straight settees to port and starboard. The starboard settee has a pull out for a wider berth. Both settees can be used as sea berths. The varnished teak drop-leaf table is along the center-line, with bottle and cutlery storage in a compartment in the center of the table. The Bristol 38.8 has outstanding storage space with compartments under the settees as well as two cabinets and bookshelves on both port and starboard. There is also a deep hanging locker and four additional drawers to starboard.
Forward of the main salon to port is the head compartment, trimmed in teak. A manual head, sink, four cabinets, large mirror on the bulkhead shower curtain and two opening ports providing ventilation to the head, complete the layout.
Forward of the head is the master cabin fitted with an offset v-berth with a removable filler that can be stored above the berth when not needed. There is a hanging locker, four drawers and sliding cabinets above the berth on either side. A large opening hatch directly over the berth provides ventilation and natural lighting.

«When things weren't working out with my previous Yacht Broker, a friend of mine suggested that I contact Yacht Access to sell my Sea Ray. I contacted Dan Paolillo at Yacht Access and there was absolutely no pressure. After our initial conversation Dan followed up with a list of comparable vessels recently sold and a list of similar vessels currently available with asking prices. After looking over the information we decided on an asking price and within 90 days Dan had my yacht under contract. Two weeks later it was sold. Since then we've kept in close touch and will hopefully be closing on my next vessel soon. After no success selling my 48' Sea Ray Sedan Bridge with my previous broker, calling Yacht Access was the best decision I ever made. I would encourage anyone looking to buy or sell to contact these professionals.»
