The Pearson 33-2, designed by Bill Shaw and built by Pearson Yachts in Rhode Island, is representative of the balance struck between performance, durability, and cruising comfort. This 1986 model is a capable coastal cruiser with a reputation for seaworthiness and sensible design.
Hull and Deck
Constructed with solid fiberglass hull and balsa-cored deck, the Pearson 33-2 is known for its robust build quality. The deck layout is clean and functional, with wide side decks, a secure cockpit, and all lines led aft for easy single- or short-handed sailing. The centerboard can be extended to improve upwind sailing, or retract for access to shallower waters.
Rig and Sailplan
The sloop rig features a deck-stepped mast, double spreaders, and a sail area of approximately 510 sq. ft., providing balanced handling under sail. It performs reliably across a broad range of conditions—ideal for weekend club racing or laid-back cruising.
Interior
Below, the Pearson 33-2 offers a warm, traditional teak interior with excellent headroom, a practical two-cabin layout, and an L-shaped galley equipped with a two-burner stove and stainless steel sink on the starboard side. To port, a large refrigerator/freezer is concealed underneath the chart table, a signature Pearson touch that maximizes space efficiently. The main salon includes opposing settees and a fold-down bulkhead table. The private forward V-berth has a walk-through door, hanging locker with louvered doors, and shelving port and starboard. The aft stateroom provides queen-sized sleeping accommodations, a hanging locker, and additional engine access. Storage compartments are found throughout.
Engine
The boat is powered by a reliable 18 Hp Yanmar 2GM20F inboard diesel, a common model with parts abundantly available.
Tankage and Plumbing
The boat features plastic water tanks with deck fills, hot and cold pressure water, and bronze ball valves on all through-hull fittings. A molded FRP shower pan and vanity unit keep the head and shower compartment easy to clean, and mirrored, sliding storage locker doors keep the space clutter-free.
If you seek a well-mannered, budget-friendly cruiser from a well-respected builder, the Pearson 33-2 is a practical choice. Call to get aboard today!
«When things weren't working out with my previous Yacht Broker, a friend of mine suggested that I contact Yacht Access to sell my Sea Ray. I contacted Dan Paolillo at Yacht Access and there was absolutely no pressure. After our initial conversation Dan followed up with a list of comparable vessels recently sold and a list of similar vessels currently available with asking prices. After looking over the information we decided on an asking price and within 90 days Dan had my yacht under contract. Two weeks later it was sold. Since then we've kept in close touch and will hopefully be closing on my next vessel soon. After no success selling my 48' Sea Ray Sedan Bridge with my previous broker, calling Yacht Access was the best decision I ever made. I would encourage anyone looking to buy or sell to contact these professionals.»
