Zephyra
Ever since Chuck Paine “retired” from his office in 2008, he’s mostly just dabbled, inventing boats for his own enjoyment. He has owned a Herreshoff 12½ for 40 years and opines that it is, or was, the world’s greatest sailboat design. All his post-retirement boats are on that theme: modern upgrades on the H 12½. He has built 14-foot and 15-foot models, which proved successful and few years ago, commissioned by boat builder Michael York, he drew up an even larger version, which is called the York 18.
The major difference between Paine’s York 18 design and the Wizard of Bristol’s original 12½ is that instead of a long keel, Paine designed a shorter NACA foil ballast keel with a separated elliptical balanced rudder. This seemingly small change, combined with improvements such as an unstayed carbon mast, made for a quantum leap forward from Paine’s previous experiments with much livelier performance along with the Herreshoff 12 ½’s tried and true qualities of a delightful feel on the helm, enjoyable maneuverability, easy set-up, and not least—exceptional safety.
Built in 2020, Zephyra is hull number 1 of the York 18’s. She has been under the same ownership since first built. Lightly used in the Maine Summer season, stored inside when not being sailed and impeccably maintained year-round. Offered with a custom-built Triad Trailer with “Float On / Float Off” capability Zephyra’s sailing season can be easily extended by heading down (or up) the highway.

«When things weren't working out with my previous Yacht Broker, a friend of mine suggested that I contact Yacht Access to sell my Sea Ray. I contacted Dan Paolillo at Yacht Access and there was absolutely no pressure. After our initial conversation Dan followed up with a list of comparable vessels recently sold and a list of similar vessels currently available with asking prices. After looking over the information we decided on an asking price and within 90 days Dan had my yacht under contract. Two weeks later it was sold. Since then we've kept in close touch and will hopefully be closing on my next vessel soon. After no success selling my 48' Sea Ray Sedan Bridge with my previous broker, calling Yacht Access was the best decision I ever made. I would encourage anyone looking to buy or sell to contact these professionals.»
